Why does Republican leadership resist election reform? — Three confusing things about the opposition to Ranked Choice Voting

Last Tuesday, a federal judge rejected the Maine Republican Party’s effort to opt out of the system of ranked-choice voting (RCV), potentially clearing the last of several legal and political obstacles the system has faced since Maine voters first approved it in 2016.  

Ahead of the June 12 gubernatorial primary, the Democratic primary for Maine's second congressional seat, and one Republican primary for a seat in the Maine House, we recap the opposition ranked-choice voting has faced recently, and analyze some dubious claims the Maine GOP has made in their resistance to the attempt at a fairer election process.
