Portland City Councilor Pious Ali was not able to secure the votes needed to extend municipal voting rights to non-citizens, a proposal he spearheaded back in February with the help of Mayor Ethan Strimling.

“We will do more research and come up with a concrete plan of implementation,” said Ali at a City Council meeting late Monday night after several hours of intense public comment.
