No Furthur: The Last Grateful Dead Show on Earth with Greg Martens, Maine’s biggest Deadhead

Greg Martens is perhaps best known to locals as the man who holds a big birthday bash each year, called the F.O.G. Festival (for Friends of Greg) to raise money for the Good Shepherd Food Bank. His generosity has helped raised more than $150,000 in seven years for Maine families. Martens was also a percussionist back in the day for Elderberry Jam, the band whose several members still crank it out as the Band Beyond Description. Martens moved on when he went to work for Blues Traveler, a gig he got while working the parking lots at Grateful Dead shows.

This past weekend was a bittersweet one for him as he took in the last Grateful Dead Show on Earth, at the Fare Thee Well tour stop at Chicago Stadium.
