Congress Street beyond Longfellow Square was once a stately and impressive part of the West End. Large single family homes were designed and built by well-known architects and sought after builders. Not too long ago Portland struggled economically and outer Congress suffered. Many of these stately homes fell into disrepair or in some cases, were boarded up indefinitely.
