As some of our hikers have aged, some of us have elected not to do the difficult hikes and prefer easier ones. This is why, in the past few months, that we have scheduled pairs of hikes — some easier and some more difficult, but all in the same general area and often sharing a common trailhead. We did the same for two hikes in Evans Notch for our June 13 hikes, an easier hike into Hermit Falls and a more difficult one to Speckled Mountain. This column is about our hike to Hermit Falls.

Hermit Falls in Evans Notch is a pretty 30-foot horsetail waterfall in a remote mountain ravine surrounded by moss (Wikipedia defines a Horsetail waterfall as one where the descending water maintains good contact with bedrock most of the time).
