SAYS A LOT ABOUT THESE RAIDERS — It is easy to be a good sport when you win or when everything is going your way. It is far more difficult when one becomes frustrated and disappointed as loss after loss pile up despite full out effort. The Fryeburg Academy varsity girls’ basketball team played hard with heart and determination each time they stepped onto the court, and despite the final score, they played the game the way it should be. Despite going 0-18, these Raiders never quit and played with pride. And, their opponents noticed. Fryeburg Academy was awarded the Sportsmanship Banner during the Class A State Finals Game in Portland. Pictured left to right, Assistant Coach Kayrin Johnson, Braily Sands (junior), Kaylan Forrest (sophomore), Emma Nagle (freshman), Coach Kristen Stacy and her daughter Bria, Bryleigh Gerry (sophomore), Jackie Guzman-Gonzalez (junior), and Presli Knapp (sophomore).“I was not surprised at all that this group of young ladies earned the sportsmanship award this year. The way the girls played this season had everyone, including their opponents, cheering them on. Hard work and selflessness should always be recognized, and I’m grateful that a majority of the coaches from our conference did just that for the FA girls’ basketball team this year,” Coach Stacy said. Well deserved, indeed!
