A quick reminder about burn permits as the Lake Region enters the burning season. A permit is not required for a fire either 3'x3' or 3-inch in diameter. A larger fire for burning yard debris or brush does require a permit. These are available online, free of charge, at maine.gov/burnpermits.

Burn permits are valid from the time of issue until 9 a.m. the following morning. At 9 a.m. each morning, the Maine Forest Service issues the predicted fire danger for the day. The classes of fire danger are: low, moderate, high, very high, extreme. Permits are issued on days listed as low or moderate. The online system will automatically shut down when fire danger is high or above.
