A CHANGE OF SEASONS — The 44th Annual Chickadee Quilter Show was held this past Sunday and Monday in October, instead of in mid-July. Chickadee President Celeste Fleming explained why the schedule shift occurred. She said that every summer has been getting hotter and hotter so the quilting group decided to aim for a cooler time of the year. Since the yearly show is held at the Stevens Brook Elementary School, it had to be a time that children had a school vacation. “We work in that heat for four (4) days. It was just too hot for us. We got positive feedback from the public about the time change. Everyone is happier with the cooler weather. They’re staying longer, shopping more and eating more at the cafeteria,” Fleming said. The show was appropriately called “Falling into Quilting.” A new addition to the show — that was quite popular — was the antique quilts. Chickadee Quilters member Maryann is shown standing next to a quilt that was sewn in 1876 for the nation’s centennial. Maryann’s grandson Eamon Teas, 9, of Raymond, won first place in the children’s category. He quilted his first blanket ever and use the leftover material to sew a sack for his NERF gun bullets.
