Blacksmithing will be one of the 18th century trades to be demonstrated by Ryan Adams of Bell Hill Forge at the Otisfield Historical Society’s second program Saturday, Aug. 22.

OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Historical Society continues to honor the nation’s 250th birthday by presenting its second program relating the town’s history during the Revolutionary War era. Step back in time with OHS to Colonial Otisfield with tradespeople and crafters of America’s 18th century. The program will be held on the lawn of the Old Town House located on the bottom of Bell Hill Road, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. The Old Town House, built in 1905, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Some of the crafts and trades to be highlighted are blacksmithing, beekeeping, spinning, rug braiding, and needlework. Additionally, there will be period-accurate games and toys on display. Try your hand at a game of whist, chess or cribbage. The Society invites the public to taste some authentic foods and flavors of that era and learn about period tools used in colonial kitchens.
