EP w38 in ye olden times sumner burnham photo

The “splendid giant,” Sumner Burnham, who in his day truly was the long arm of the law hereabouts.

Howdy neighbor!

Now, I’ll tell you, what a disagreeable way it was to wake up this past Sunday to the news that something bad was going down here in our little town, with gunshots heard in the woods down along the Kansas Road. Doubtless, the whole affair is better told elsewhere in this week’s issue, but in case you missed it; at approximately seventeen minutes before eight a.m., across mine and no doubt many of our readers’ mobile phones here in Bridgton, there flashed a public safety alert from the Bridgton Police Department, dutifully warning, “All residents are advised to shelter inside due to police activity. Lock doors. Will inform when lifted.”
