BROWNFIELD — If you’ve spent any time around the New England roots music scene over the past decade, chances are you’ve crossed paths with Tricky Britches — whether on a festival stage, in a packed club, or even busking on a lively street corner. The Portland, Maine-based band has built a reputation for delivering electrifying performances that blur the lines between bluegrass, country, folk, and rock.
Formed in 2009 by four friends with a shared love of traditional string band music and a willingness to push it in new directions, Tricky Britches quickly carved out their own unmistakable sound. Rooted in the driving rhythms and instrumental virtuosity of bluegrass, the band spices things up with a modern edge — pulling in elements of old-time country, folk storytelling, and the raw energy of rock and roll.
