BERLIN — Senior goaltender Chelsey Caron made 17 saves and teammates Rylie Binette and Shaeleigh Valliere scored two goals each lifting the Berlin girls' hockey team to a 7-0 victory over the Lebanon Raiders in the quarterfinal round of the Division I playoffs in Berlin on Friday. The win advances the top seeded 18-1 Berlin/Gorham team to the semifinal round against the No. 5 ranked (12-6-1) St Thomas/Dover team at Plymouth State University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Saints were 3-2 upset winners over the No. 4 seed Concord girls.
Lebanon was missing a couple of players leaving the Red Raiders with just nine skaters along with freshman goalie Hope Brown. Fryeburg went on the power-play when the Raiders were whistled for a tripping penalty, and the Mounties made the visitors pay for their mistake. Senior Meagan Accardi unloaded a blast from the blue-line that rebounded right out front to Valliere. The junior forward quickly put the rebound past Brown for her 12th goal of the winter and, more importantly, a 1-0 lead. Accardi and senior captain, Jenna Arguin, got the helping markers.
