This week begins the winter sports season for Gorham and Berlin High Schools — that includes hockey, basketball and alpine skiing (Gorham only).

Gorham basketball with coaches Joe Cassady and Pete Girouard for the girls and boys basketball with Dave Morrissette began yesterday. They will host the annual alumni games this Friday, Nov. 29, at the Gorham Gym: the girls will play at 5 p.m. and boys at 6:30 p.m.

Sherrill Tracy and Robbie Munce will again coach Gorham’s Alpine Ski Team.

Berlin High girls basketball, coached by Don Picard and Pete Peare, and the spirit team, which is back after a year off and coached by Coleen Colwell, began their pre-season practices last week.

Unified Basketball, coached by Karen Turgeon, and the boys basketball team, coached by Jared Lauze and Nick Fodor, started up yesterday.

The girl’s hockey program, coached by Craig Bartoli and Nathan Leborgne, and boy’s team, coached by Mike Poulin, Corey Reindeau and Dan Makin, will be up and running on Dec. 2.

Also Berlin will be fielding a Nordic Ski Team under the guidance of Rick Treiss.

The basketball alumni games will take place this Friday with the girls slated for 3 p.m. and the boys to follow at 4:30 p.m., at the Berlin High gymnasium.
