Hello to all of you sports' fans out there. I hope and pray all is well with you and your families during this trying time in our nation and our world. There are many a moment when I shake my head and wonder if this is all a dream, and tomorrow I will wake up and head to the Gorham Common for baseball and tennis, Libby and Community Fields for softball, Memorial Field for baseball and the Maurice Wheeler Track and Mike Gaydo Field for track and field. Unfortunately, not this year!
Berlin High School Track Coach Bob Lord, responded to an email I sent out to all the local spring coaches regarding the cancelation of school and spring sports. He stated: "Losing a season at my age (soon to be 74) is a tough pill to swallow. Not being able to have and see those seniors who had state qualifying times and distances last year as juniors compete hurts like crazy for all of us, as well as missing out on the progress and potential of the underclassmen. I will also miss seeing and visiting with the spring coaches at BHS and connecting with my fellow track colleagues. I have been in touch with a few of the kids and I know it is worse for them. The beauty of sports however, is real winners learn to deal with adversity through their involvement with sports and move on."
