CONWAY — Despite a gallant effort, there will be no playoffs for the Kennett High field hockey team this fall. The Eagles needed to beat rivals Berlin at Centola Field on Friday, and came oh-so-close to accomplishing that feat but the visiting Mountaineers scored a third-quarter goal and made it stand up for the 1-0 win.

While there will be no postseason play for the girls below Pinkham Notch, Berlin is ready for the second season to begin. With Friday’s win, the Mountaineers improved to 11-3 in Division III play and sat in fourth place in the standings as of Monday, trailing only Gilford, 14-0; Stevens, 13-1; and Masenic, 12-2.
