BERLIN — A discussion between school administrators and the Berlin school board about students’ reading abilities and how young students learn to read took center stage last week instead of a talk on play-based learning. Berlin Elementary School Principal Cynthia Pike said the topics would be discussed in two parts.

Pike and school board Chairperson Ann Nolin, a veteran classroom educator, spoke of student test scores from the National Assessment of Educational Progress reports.
