Hello fellow Berlinites. As I continue with events and history of Berlin 39 years ago, high winds raised havoc at the local airport on Sunday, April 3. Afternoon winds flipped over airplanes at the Berlin Municipal Airport in Milan and trees crashed across streets and into power lines locally. Fortunately the damage was limited to property and there were no human injuries.

Two planes were flipped over when their tie down ropes were broken or pulled loose from the anchors and a third plane was damaged by one that was overturned. The Berlin Fire Department was called to the airport to wash away fuel spilled from the damaged planes and also secure some of the threatened planes. Some of the airplanes were bouncing two or three feet off the ground when the firemen arrived. Public Service Company also had a rough day because of the falling trees that were toppled by heavy winds. I am sure the owners of these planes remember this day in April of 1977 very well.
