To the editor:

On Feb. 19, Mayor Cone took to Facebook to complain about Berlin’s new tax rate of $30.89, which he described as a “substantial increase,” and he said that it was “a surprise to me.” He attributed the situation to lost revenue from the Burgess Biomass facility, a mistake in overstated revenues, and something he vaguely called “overspending our means.” He argued that because the city was two-thirds of the way through its budget calendar, there was little they could do to avert the increase.
