Rural areas across northern New England are facing tough times. Good paying manufacturing jobs are declining, young people and families are forced to leave to find work, public schools are stressed, and access to health care is limited.

That the problems facing Berlin and Gorham are not unique to this area was brought home with a presentation Tuesday by Ellen Shemitz, president of the Children’s Alliance of N.H.
