BERLIN — Presidential hopeful Andrew Yang is best known for his Freedom Dividend proposal. Campaigning in Berlin Thursday, Yang said he is proposing giving all U.S. citizens over 18 years of age $1,000 a month as a way to provide a guaranteed basic income.
The founder of Venture for America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping entrepreneurs create jobs in struggling cities, Yang said the Freedom Dividend is a form of universal basic income. He said the concept is not new — in fact it dates back to the Renaissance and has been embraced by over 1,000 economists and actually passed the U.S. House during the 1970s.
