RANDOLPH —The longtime preservation of a 36-acre tract of old-growth forest on both sides of the Snyder Brook Scenic Area on the south side of U.S. Route 2, only a short distance from the Appalachia Trailhead, was celebrated by some 40 outdoor enthusiasts on Saturday.

This upbeat occasion, sponsored by the Randolph Foundation, Randolph Mountain Club and Randolph Forest Commission, began on a sparkling clear day at 10:30 a.m. on the north side of Route 2 in the timber-framed Pavilion at the Ravine House Pool.  One hundred-and thirty-one years have passed since this small, remarkable, wooded area was permanently preserved.
