GORHAM — A dozen school employees spent time at a scheduled two-hour-long meet-and-greet session in the middle school cafeteria on Tuesday afternoon asking questions and talking with the two candidates for a permanent appointment to fill the SAU 20 superintendent’s post. In a process facilitated by Rick Alpers of Primex, board members interviewed both men separately in closed sessions in the library. No members of the general public were on hand, although they were invited and hoped for.
Both candidates — Mat Forest of Lancaster, superintendent of the Caledonia Central Supervisory Union in Danville, Vt., and David Backler of Milan, who was appointed SAU 20 interim superintendent for a year starting on July 1 — clearly had had a lot of experience talking about education, its myriad challenges and satisfactions.
