THOMPSON & MESERVE’S PURCHASE — On Monday, Sept. 7, at approximately 9:45 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified by State Police Dispatch of a hiker struggling to make it down the Jewell Trail. The initial call had come in from a third party caller. But then a second call came in from the hiker's wife, who was with her husband, and called 911 requesting assistance.

The hiker, identified as Andrew Mahoney, 58, of Madison, was descending the trail with his wife and daughter and, due to a medical condition, was having trouble continuing down the trail. Two conservation officers were sent to assist the Mahoneys. In addition, Mahoney’s brother drove up from several hours away to render assistance in getting his brother down.
