Firefighters limited damage from Willard Street fire

BERLIN — The quick work of Berlin firefighters limited the damage from a fire at a Willard Street home Tuesday afternoon.

Berlin Fire Chief James Watkins said the homeowners noticed smoke after lighting their fireplace in their Willard Street home and tried to extinguish the fire themselves but then called 911. The call was received just after 4 p.m.
