GORHAM — The N.H. Executive Council earlier this month approved a $1.66 million Forest Legacy grant application to purchase a conservation easement on 4,100 acres in Gorham known as the Androscoggin Valley Corridor project.

The grant will protect tracts owned by the Gorham Land Co. and ensure the privately owned property will continue as a working forest with public access maintained. The project includes high quality forest soils, an 8.5-mile boundary with the White Mountain National Forest, 34 miles of riparian frontage, 24 miles of recreational trails, and the state’s largest bat hibernaculum.
