BERLIN — An item on the city council’s July 6 agenda proved anything but quiet Monday night, ending with the pulling back of a resident’s appointment to serve as a planning board alternate member after that resident made controversial and unflattering remarks on social media about another councilor and possibly that councilor’s family member.

A vote to reconsider the appointment of Christian Judson, 29, as an alternate planning board member failed. Judson currently is a zoning board member.
