WEST STEWARTSTOWN — The Coos County Commission has approved a formal policy on mileage reimbursements for commissioners. The commission held a first reading of the new policy at its March 6 meeting and followed up with a second reading at its April 11 meeting. The vote was unanimous to approved the policy after the second reading. The policy will now go to the Coos delegation, which must vote to enact it.
The issue of mileage reimbursements arose earlier this year when former county Commissioner Paul Grenier alleged current Commissioner Robert Theberge had billed the county for meetings he did not attend as well as for meetings where he was not the county representative. Grenier charged Theberge had committed fraud with taxpayers’ money.
