BETHEL, MAINE — A competitor in the New England Forest Road Rally was killed in a crash on the first day of the race and officials canceled the remaining day of the competition last weekend.

Erin Kelly, 48, of Marshall, Va., was a co-driver on a team with her long-time driver and rally partner, Thomas Pullen, 41, of Northwood. News Center Maine reported the car failed to make a left turn, went out of control, and crashed into a tree on the passenger side of the car. Kelly was declared dead at the scene. As co-driver, her role was to give directions to Pullen and inform him of what was ahead on the road.
