BERLIN — The city council voted to reinstate the assistant fire chief position, discussed the cost estimate for the Mason Street Bridge renovation and received an update on COVID-19 efforts at its meeting Monday night.

The assistant fire chief position was eliminated in the fiscal 2019 budget, and City Manager James Wheeler reported that Fire Captain Peter Donovan has been on special assignment doing the fire inspections that formerly were done by the assistant fire chief.

Yes, I have a Comment... I recently contacted one of our State Senators about the Police CCTV Cameras that are mounted on top of Street Lamps on every Block here in Berlin, and for that matter, every City and town on the USA Grid. I was never advised of any Public Discussion about this matter. It doesn't give me any "Safe", or warm and fuzzy feeling... Was this another Federally Financed Grant like the Armored Car with 50 caliber Gun Mounts for the Police Department? The Senator told me this was a Local Government Issue... Perhaps Mayor Grenier, or some other Official would care to make a Public Response to my Post? I'm sure I'm not alone in awaiting the Response with much interest...Very Respectfully, John Sullivan, Vietnam Era Vet, Berlin NH sends...
