GORHAM — In a journey spanning at least 120 years and including a slow, careful ride in a pickup truck between a coastal Massachusetts town and Gorham, the stately desk Thomas Wight purchased a long time ago is back home.

Wight bought the desk for $75, “all in dimes," as Town Manager Peter Gagnon and Library Director Shannon Buteau recalled. Town officials received a phone call from Virginia Young, Wight’s granddaughter, in mid-August, and learned about her desire to bring the desk back to Gorham, where Wight had purchased it at the turn of the 20th century. The desk now is in the library in a room off the main entrance. Young is in her early 90s.
