BERLIN — Gov. Chris Sununu has designated Monday, April 8, 2024, as Solar Eclipse Day in New Hampshire. Inspired by this momentous event, where parts of northern New Hampshire will be in the path of totality, the Great North Woods libraries have planned a series of free programs relating to the mysteries and science of space.
The 2024 “Starry Nights” series begins on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m., when Doug Arion, PhD, presents “Darkness in the Daytime: Total Solar Eclipse.” Total solar eclipses are rare events — any one location on Earth can expect to see one every 300 years or so. Our talk will discuss the upcoming eclipse, the workings of the sun and the connections we get by experiencing this amazing event. Arion is the director of Mountains of Stars, a public science outreach and education program that engages the public with environmental awareness from a cosmic perspective.
