BERLIN -- Androscoggin Valley Hospital invites the public to its next health education lecture titled, "COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) vs. Asthma." The lecture, to be presented by Dr. Peggy M. Simon, pulmonologist, AVH Surgical Associates, will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, October 29, in the AVH Lecture Room (hospital's first floor.)

Dr. Simon will discuss how many cases of COPD remain undiagnosed in the United States, characterizations of the disease, the effects of tobacco and what's involved in determining whether or not a patient has COPD. In addition, she will discuss the risk factors for both COPD and asthma, how each is defined and show what an Asthma action plan looks like.
