BERLIN — Northern Biogas will now have until Jan. 1, 2028, to complete the $10 million payment to the Androscoggin Valley Regional Refuse Disposal District to build and operate a plant that will convert methane gas at the district’s Mt. Carberry landfill.

When the solid waste district selected Northern Biogas to build the gas plant back in December 2024, the two parties signed a 20-year contract that called for Northern Biogas to make an initial payment of $10 million to the district. Northern Biogas, however, has received five extensions and so far, has paid the district a total of $1.2 million of the $10 million.
