O’Brien Murphy now showing at AVH

 

BERLIN — Local artist Ben Murphy is currently showing a sample of his paintings at the Rotating Artists Program in the Androscoggin Valley Hospital cafeteria. His work will be on display through Sunday, Dec. 6. He will be hosting a reception in the AVH cafeteria on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hospital personnel, patients, visitors and members of the local community are invited to attend and visit with the artist about his work.

The name Ben Murphy (O’Brien Murphy) is synonymous with art in the greater Berlin area. A graduate of Plymouth State University, he has been an art educator in Berlin Public Schools for over forty years. In his early years, formal training was done under New Hampshire legends Christopher Kressy, James Fortune, Robert Morton and Robert Hughes. Murphy is an adjunct instructor for Granite State College, and White Mountain Community College teaching sculpture, drawing and art literacy. He has also designed and constructed sets for some fifty theatrical productions. His paintings are in private, public and corporate collections throughout the Northeast. Works by O’Brien Murphy have been showcased in galleries and exhibits in the New England area.
