1. GO WHOLE HORSE OR NO HORSE AT ALL

A fine and widely admired poet, KENNETH ROSEN has (in this writer’s opinion) penned some of the most lively, adventurous and ripened verse in Portland’s modern history. His stirring volumes Whole Horse, Longfellow Square, and The Origins of Tragedy read to me a bit like what Jack Gilbert might have written if he’d lived in the liberatory early years of Portland cultural life in the 1970s and ‘80s. Published in the New Yorker, the Paris Review, and Poetry magazine, Rosen is a local pillar, and reads new material tonight. | Nov 15 | Thu 5:45 pm | Greenhut Galleries, 146 Middle St, Portland | greenhutgalleries.com
