To The Editor:

Political leaders concerned with public health should support a significant investment of state and federal money into cultivated-meat research. For those who don’t know, cultivated meat is grown from livestock cells, without slaughter. The majority of antibiotics sold in the United States are used in animal agriculture, which accelerates the emergence of bacteria impervious to medical intervention, threatening human health. Cultivated meat requires no antibiotics, thus not contributing to this potentially catastrophic problem.
