Jon Hively as Thomas Edison at the Chatham Historical Society on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.

CHATHAM, N.H. — The Chatham Historical Society presents “A Visit with Thomas Edison” on Saturday, October 17, at 1 p.m. Edison, who lived 1847 to 1931, will be impersonated by Jon Hively of North Conway, N.H.

Hively has been fascinated with Thomas Edison since childhood. Besides inventing the incandescent lightbulb and the phonograph, Edison was extremely curious and inventive, eventually holding nearly 1,100 patents. Among other endeavors, he worked in early motion pictures, improved the telegraph system, telephones, and x-ray systems, searched for a new source of rubber, and created the first industrial research lab.
