GROVETON-- East Montpelier Vermont's Joey Laquerre was the winning bidder this past Saturday in Groveton, purchasing the former site of Riverside Speedway and immediately informing the media present that 1/4 mile high banked speed plant would be re-named Grovetona Motor Speedway. Laquerre's winning bid of $70,000 plus the paying of back taxes in the vicinity of $26,000, had the well know, multi-feature winning driver, pumping his fist in the air when the auctioneer said, "Sold" and pointed at Laquerre.
A group of close to 50 people had assembled under the speedway's beer tent and listened closely to the instructions given by the Passumpsic Bank's Chad Hickey. The property was being auctioned As/Is with all the fixed assets staying in place. The group was told that the office trailer was not going to remain on site. Lussierre Auction Services was on hand to conduct the actual auction.
