JAY, MAINE — A large explosion occurred Wednesday around noon at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay. Maine. Initial reports indicate no injuries were reported but Maine Gov. Janet Mills was asking people to stay away from the site and allow first responders and public safety officials to investigate.

The mill owner said the cause of the explosion was an apparent rupture in a pressure vessel. A mixture of wood fiber, water, and pulping liquor were released in the explosion.
