WEST STEWARTSTOWN— Coos County’s two nursing homes provide the highest quality of care but have staffing levels that are above industry averages according to a study hired by the Coos County commission. Reimbursement levels do not meet costs and the 2023 budget projected the facilities would operate at a deficit of approximately $8 million.

The commission hired the consulting firm of BarryDunn to do an operational analysis of the Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown and the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin and compare them to their peers within the region. The West Stewartstown nursing home is a Medicaid certified facility providing long-term care services only. The Berlin facility is also Medicare certified and provides short stay rehabilitation services as well as long term care.
