BERLIN — School board members recommended to administrators that kindergarteners be tested less with more time allowed for play-based learning, after hearing several teachers say this change is needed.

A formal vote was not taken by the board on the recommendation, yet none of the four board members present at the June 5 meeting spoke against what the teachers were telling them.
