MOUNT WASHINGTON - A 25-year old man died after falling while descending the Tuckerman Ravine trail Thursday afternoon. Fish and Game officials said the hiker was with a group of friends when he wandered off the trail to get a better look at a waterfall and fill his water bottle. He slipped on the wet terrain and fell approximately 150 feet, landing on a small ledge approximately three quarters of the way up the headwall.
Rescue personnel from AMC, MRS, Mount Washington State Park, Mount Washington Observatory and Fish and Game responded after the call for assistance came in from 911 around 5:15 p.m. Fellow hikers, some with medical training, rushed to the scene from as far away as the Hermit Lake Shelter to provide initial medical treatment.
