BERLIN — Chris Herren was living his dream – the Massachusetts native was playing in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets and then the Boston Celtics. Three years in the NBA was followed by another five years playing professionally for a variety of foreign teams.

But along with the professional career was an addiction to drugs that started when he was 18. He was expelled from Boston College after failed drug tests for marijuana and cocaine. He ended up doing a stint in rehabilitation during his time at Fresno State before being drafted into the NBA.
