In the White Mountains of New Hampshire, preparations are underway for the 19th season of the Polar Express Event of New England®, the original Polar Express Event. In December of 1995, in North Conway, the Polar Express Event of New England® first reenacted the award-winning book by Chris Van Allsberg. With exclusive treats and gifts, the two-hour holiday journey includes a train ride to the North Pole, and an enchanting walk to the North Pole Theater where visitors are greeted by a sea of cheering elves, a retelling of the story and a visit from Santa himself.

The event is organized and presented by the Believe in Books Literacy Foundation and is its largest fundraiser. The Foundation serves over 1500 households in Northern New Hampshire and Western Maine and has gifted over $1,300,000 through literacy programs, scholarships, grants and book distributions. By 2013, tens of thousands of books have been distributed.
