DURHAM — On the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, it’s important to note that Alan Shepard, from Derry, and teacher Christa McAuliffe, from Concord, are not the only ties to space from the Granite State.

Scientists at the University of New Hampshire’s Space Science Center are on the forefront of research that could one day help man get back to the moon or even beyond. They are involved in several space projects — including one that is orbiting the moon right now — and have an impressive reputation of working with NASA and other institutions on more than 30 space missions over the past 60 years.
