Locally, letter carriers, rural carriers, part time carriers, postal employees and volunteers from area organizations all join in an effort to make the food drive in the Berlin, Gorham, Cascade, Milan, Randolph, Shelburne communities successful in supporting area food pantries.
Posters and fliers will be up throughout the community prior to the food drive announcing the event and encouraging people to participate. It is easy to reach out and help those that need a helping hand; just place the non-perishable food items you would like to donate outside by your mailbox early in the morning on Saturday, May 8, and your local letter carrier will pick them up for distribution to area food pantries. The food items most needed are canned beef stew, tuna fish, spaghetti sauce, pasta, vegetables, peanut butter, canned fruit, macaroni and cheese, cereal and canned meats. Personal hygiene items such as bar soap, tooth paste, shampoo, feminine hygiene products and tooth brushes are appreciated as well as toilet tissue, laundry and dish detergents. These items can not be purchased with food stamps and for families with limited incomes they are really appreciated.
