The Paquets whose line is traced here, originally came from Poitou in France. Poitou is the department where Poitiers is located, the site of the interrogation of Joan of Arc in 1429. For the purpose of this article, the descendants of Mery [Emery] Pasquier will be followed. Mery had four children: Maurice, Marguerite, Francois, and Rene. Both Mery and Maurice were serge weavers. Mery and his second wife, Maurice and his wife, Francoise, and Rene left for New France around 1667. They settled at Bourg-Royal. While Mery and Maurice cleared the land, they also practiced their trade. Rene became a joiner. Daughter Marguerite took advantage of a program initiated by the King of France to pay passage to the New World for any unmarried female. These were known as the "daughters of the King." She arrived in Quebec in 1670. Name variations for Paquet include: Paquette, Pawket, Pocket, and Parker.
