While Mery and Maurice cleared the land, they also practiced their trade. Rene became a joiner. Daughter Marguerite took advantage of a program initiated by the King of France to pay passage to the New World for any unmarried female. These were known as the "daughters of the King." She arrived in Quebec in 1670. Name variations for Paquet include: Paquette, Pawket, Pocket, and Parker.
