Meditech is designed to give the treating physician immediate access to all of a patient's clinical information including medical history, allergies, medications, test results, procedures and diagnoses. Patients benefit from the system, as it checks for appropriate dosing of medication and looks for drug interactions. Nurses and clinical staff use Meditech to document care, complete assessments, and view labwork at the bedside using laptop computers on carts. Staff place requisitions and schedule appointments for tests and procedures including X-rays, bloodwork, therapies and physician visits using the Meditech system.
The Information Systems staff also maintains the many computers, printers, telephones, voice mail system, and necessary computer software needed for staff to perform their jobs. When needed, they provide education and training on new technology.
