Burgess BioPower makes $523,000 payment

Burgess BioPower made a payment of $523,000 to Berlin last week, the first payment to the city from the facility’s sale of renewable energy certificates as outlined in the payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement. City officials will use the funds to reduce one of the state’s highest property tax rates by a full $1 per thousand dollars of valuation and to purchase vital new equipment for the Berlin Public Works Department. BERLIN — Burgess BioPower made a $523,000 payment to the city last week — the first payment to the city from the facility’s sale of renewable energy certificates as outlined in the payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement.

The city council has voted to use the funds to help reduce one of the state’s highest property tax rates by a full $1 per thousand dollars of valuation and to purchase vital new equipment for the Berlin Public Works Department.
