BERLIN — The now green-grass span of land above and diagonally across from City Hall has a new lease on life with the purchase this spring by the Berlin Industrial Development & Park Authority of lots once owned by the Rite Aid drugstore chain.

Seven parcels of land — each parcel differs in its dimensions — are now under BIDPA’s ownership. BIDPA is an enterprise fund of the city, has its own board and functions independently with the goal of expanding economic development opportunities. BIDPA is under the umbrella of the Berlin Economic Development Authority. The parcels involved lie along Mason, Oak, Pleasant and Main streets as a street map shows.
